Sworple is a fun, lightweight word guessing game. It is technically a card game, but the game play involves physical touch, so it certainly doesn’t fit neatly into the typical card came definition. It could also fit into the party game or family game categories.

The creators explain Sworple like this:
Sworple (Sense + Word + People) is a tactile card game where you read by feel. It’s like charades + word guessing, but with your sense of touch. Instead of speaking the word on your card, you trace the word on a friend’s arm, back, leg, neck, or head, and they try to guess it.

There are different play modes, but the rules are essentially the same no matter which version you play. You’ll have a card in your hand that features a word and a location of the body. The word might be “Knight” or “Acorn” and the body location might be “arm” or “back”. Your task is to use your finger (or other object) to write the word on the card on the appropriate body part while the person you are writing on has to guess the word. If they guess right, they get a point. Most points wins.
There are a mix of short, three-letter words, like “oil” and “axe”, and longer words, like “cauldron” and “cinnamon”. The longer words, of course, are a bit more difficult to guess, since you have to keep track of more letters. The real challenge, however, at least for the group I played with, is body location. I found that guessing a word written on my back was fairly easy. My arm, also easy. My head though, nope, that’s just weird. And neck, eh, what? We found it a little odd to both write on certain body parts, like someone’s neck, as well as try to guess words written on that body part. Of course, if you feel the same way it is easy to simply pick a different body location. Some cards have “you choose” as the location, so it isn’t a stretch to do that while playing.

The artwork is cute. Like teetering on an adorable level of cuteness. Due to the lightweight gameplay and cute artwork, I think this would be a great game to break out during family game night. It is light hearted and fun, doesn’t take any set up time, and can be played without tracking points. Due to the fact that you must touch others to play this game, I can also see it being a sort of intimate game for couples. I can see an adult-themed version working well.
Overall, the game delivers a fun experience and I can give it my stamp of approval.
