I had a chance to download and read through the sample PDF for The Gourmet Grimoire, and I have to say, this is a charming and flavorful addition to any D&D 5E table. The presentation is clean and the recipes are both thematic and thoughtfully crafted. Whether you’re a player who likes to explore the roleplaying side of downtime or a DM looking to sprinkle in some flavor (pun intended), this book has something to offer.
One of the real strengths of The Gourmet Grimoire is its attention to detail. The dishes feel like they belong in a fantasy world, but many also have enough real-world structure to be inspiring to home cooks. It’s a solid combination of immersion and utility.
That said, there is one aspect I hope the creators consider revising before the final version goes to print. Currently, the book presents each dish with a half-page image and flavorful description in one section, then compiles all the game mechanics and rules into a separate section later on. Personally, I’d love to see each dish given a two-page spread: one page for the art and description, and the facing page for the mechanical effects and rules. This small layout change would go a long way toward improving usability during gameplay and make it easier to reference everything you need at a glance.
All in all, this looks like it’s shaping up to be a fun and functional supplement for anyone who enjoys the culinary side of worldbuilding. If you like to cook in real life or enjoy bringing a little extra flavor to your in-game meals, The Gourmet Grimoire is well worth checking out.
